The New DS E-Tense Electric Concept Car Makes Debut in Geneva

08 July 2016

The DS range of vehicles are already quite an impressive sight to behold. There’s a wealth of great cars that are suited to everything from city driving, to tackling country roads and even long-haul trips. While there are also plenty of economical options to consider across the DS models, a recent announcement at the Geneva Motor Show revealed exciting news for green motoring.

Back in March, Citroen unveiled their new concept car, an all-electric vehicle called the DS E-Tense, during an exhibition at the motor show. However, rather than the focus being purely on the economy on offer, there’s also a lot for you to get excited about in regards to the potential driving performance.

Impressive Power and Range

The lithium-ion batteries found in the E-Tense can muster up some impressive power. There’s 391lb/ft of torque and up to 402bhp, which is all purely electric. When it comes to the driving range available, if you were to be driving purely in an urban setting or at lower speeds, there’s up to 224 miles for you to enjoy. For longer commutes the overall range is 193 miles. Either way, that’s an incredible amount of emissions-free economy.

A Stunning Design

Over 800 hours have been spent designing, testing and producing the E-Tense and you can see where all that hard work has gone with the finished article. The attractive carbon fibre chassis sweeps elegantly over 4.72 metres and is reminiscent of the Divine DS concept Citroen released in 2015. A leaf out of the history books has also been taken, with the way the tail lights and indicators are mounted on the roof, as this is inspired from a 1955 DS.

A Wealth of Gadgetry

Along with the beautiful look and amazing performance from this electric car, there’s also plenty of accommodating and impressive gadgets to be found both inside and outside the E-Tense.

To give you just a couple of examples, there are active LED daytime running lights which, as well as being automatic, can rotate around 180 degrees. There are plans with these to introduce them into the next generations of DS models.

When it comes to exterior examples, other luxury makes like BRM Chronographes and Moynat have been worked with to produce a futuristic helmet harness for the car. With these brands, the ability for drivers to take the timepiece in the centre console and detach it to wear as a watch has been created. What’s best though is that these innovations are just a few instances of the gadgetry on offer with the E-Tense.

A Sign of Things to Come?

Despite this being only the second year of us being a brand separate from Citroen, we are looking at this development as a positive step forward. The reality of course will only be seen over time, but it’s fair to say that we are looking to present ourselves firmly as a manufacturer who can produce high-end, green luxury vehicles, on top of our usual quality range.
