ELECTRIC, PLUG-IN HYBRID, MILD HYBRID, WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

A real quick one to get started.

Electric vehicles do not need conventional fuel to run and are 100% powered by an electric battery.

Plug-in Hybrids (or PHEVs – a few acronyms in this bit!) run on a combination of electricity and petrol or diesel fuel. PHEVs can automatically switch between electric power and a traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). They can be charged using an external power source, such as a charging point.

Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEVs – you guessed that one, right?) don't need to be plugged in to recharge. They are very similar to traditional petrol cars but have an additional small electric battery that assists the conventional engine to help make the vehicle more efficient and reduce emissions. MHEVs recover energy using regenerative braking.

AFFORDABILITY

How affordable are electric cars?

The good news is electric cars are now more affordable than ever before. With demand continuing to grow, prices are highly competitive for a range of highly equipped Electric Vehicles. We now offer 9 brands, all with electric options, and starting from £15,995 or £199 per month and £199 deposit with 0% APR Representative*

More electric vehicle drivers are reaping the rewards of lower running costs. These include financial benefits such as avoiding charges in ULEZ/ clean air zones and even receiving special lower tariffs from energy suppliers. These tariffs allow you to charge your electric vehicle from home overnight for as little as 3p per mile (compared to around 19p-21p per mile for combustion engines).

Benefits like these are helping to make the total cost of ownership of an electric car less or even closer to owning a petrol or diesel car. We also offer flexible finance options, all tailored to meet your budget, so you can enjoy driving electric without breaking the bank.

Range, Charging & Batteries Image

ELECTRIC CAR RANGE & CHARGING

I have places to go and people to see! How far can I go on a full charge?

If you think electric cars can’t go the distance? We have news. When it comes to range, modern electric cars can now travel up to 415 miles on a full battery charge. Ask yourself: how often would you make long trips like that without stopping? It’s more than enough range to cover your daily commute, weekend trips to the seaside or spontaneous snack runs.

But if I want to drive further, what then?

UK charging point availability is on the increase. There’s now over 45,000 public charging points in the UK and growing. That’s five times more charging points than UK coffee shops! With many existing petrol stations converting to electric charging stations, you’re never really far from somewhere to recharge.

Planning your journey has always been key to driving long distances, but it’s now so easy. Apps such as Zap-Map is a free app and website dedicated to helping electric drivers plan trips, find charging stations, and pay for charging. You can also use e-ROUTES as your virtual co-pilot, directly from your smartphone’s Connected Services app. It will guide you to your destination, suggest the nearest charging points along the way and provide real-time updates on your battery levels. And remember, you can always enjoy a fresh coffee while your vehicle is charging.

If only I could hear from an electric car owner…

We agree, current electric car drivers know best. Watch these videos and hear from drivers who’ve already made the switch.

Spoiler alert: They’re never going back!

AFTER PURCHASE CARE

What about service and maintenance?

If you consider electric vehicles have 90% fewer moving parts than traditional cars, this means they require less maintenance and fewer parts to replace. Just think: no oil changes, less brake wear due to regenerative braking, simpler transmissions, no new spark plugs, timing belts, etc.

You’ll still have your annual servicing, followed by brake fluid changes, pollen filter replacement, and coolant checks. Plus, you’ll retain the same manufacturer warranty as our petrol and diesel vehicles, for total peace of mind. With dedicated service plans available too, we ensure you are looked after at every stage of car ownership.

Total Cost of Ownership

Is it really more cost-effective to own an electric car?

While it’s true that the initial price of an electric vehicle is more than its petrol or diesel equivalent, the all-over cost saving can be significant.

Energy providers now offering special low-rate tariffs for electric vehicle users, you can charge overnight from home for as little as 3p per mile. Compared to the 19p-21p per mile for combustion engines.

There are plenty of other major savings with electric vehicles, too: you pay £0 road tax currently; zero congestion charges in clean air zones; parking is free (or cheap) in some areas; and with electric vehicles becoming more popular on the roads, insurance costs are lower than in previous years.

Plus, don’t forget that there’s reduced maintenance required, due to 90% less moving parts than a typical car. Benefits like these are all helping to make the total cost of ownership of an electric car significantly less than owning a Petrol or diesel car.

Connected Services Image

CONNECTED SERVICES

OK, so are there any cool connectivity features?

Oh, so you like the smart stuff? The tech that makes your journey more enjoyable? Connected Services refers to additional features you can access via your smartphone.

With an electric car you can sync with your smartphone to remotely manage charging, monitor battery levels, find the best routes to charging points with e-ROUTES, or even pre-warm the car on frosty mornings. All directly controlled from your phone by downloading the simplified Connected Services app, designed specifically for electric vehicle owners.

The vehicle pre-conditioning is one of the most liked features as you can stay in the comfort of your home and warm the car in colder months or cool it down in warmer – either way you set the temperature of the car to enjoy it from the moment you get in!

For a smarter, seamless driving experience, keep connected every mile of the way with Connected Services.

Living with EV Image

LIVING WITH EV

How is switching to an electric vehicle going to change my life?

It could change more than your life. It could benefit the entire world. And it all starts from home. Home charging puts you firmly in control, alleviating the need to visit a fuel station by allowing you to conveniently charge from home each night. From 2024, every new-build home in the UK is required to have home charging points installed, to make set up easier.

The decision to move away from fossil-fuel sources is a positive one for the planet. Electric vehicles produce zero driving emissions, making them a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to vehicles with internal combustion engines.

Electric vehicles are not only good for the environment, they’re also great to drive. They offer a tremendously smooth and quiet driving experience that simply makes every journey infinitely more enjoyable. Less engine noise, instant acceleration, no gear shifts, and advanced driving aids, all help to make driving both effortless and simultaneously thrilling.

So plug in, you’re in for a beautiful ride!
