Peugeot reveal the best Christmas markets for UK EV owners

The UK’s best Christmas markets for electric vehicle drivers has been revealed following a study by PEUGEOT UK. The most accessible is Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market, which offers the best balance of charging points according to the research.

Now that Christmas market stalls are opening across the UK, PEUGEOT UK conducted a study that revealed which markets are most suitable for the drivers of electric vehicle. The research found that Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market was on top of the rankings, while Edinburgh’s Christmas Market came close behind in second place, with York’s Christmas Market placing third.

Using research from TimeOut of the best Christmas markets in the UK for ‘magical festive shopping', PEUGEOT first examined which of the markets could be driven to using the 251-mile (WLTP) range of the new PEUGEOT E-2008 from the UK’s 15 most populated cities. The research also ranked how many public charging points were within a 5-mile radius of the Christmas Market, and also the charging speeds available, while accommodation options that offered electric car charging were also scored. The accessibility of Electric Charging points is more important than ever to encourage people to drive electric as Low Emissions Zones keep expanding across the UK.

Each Christmas market, aside from Edinburgh’s Christmas Market, were accessible from at least twelve of the UK’s most populated cities. York’s Christmas Market was discovered to be the most accessible with fourteen of the fifteen most populated cities in the UK drivable with the 251-mile range of the new E-2008.

Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market had the most charging stations within a 5-mile radius of the city centre, with 154 available, 66 of them being DC rapid chargers with speeds above 50kW. Using a 100kW DC rapid charger, the new E-2008 can charge from 20-80% in less than 30 minutes.

Edinburgh’s Christmas Market was home to the second-highest number of charging stations, having 104 available, 31 being DC rapid chargers. Edinburgh is reachable from 6 of the UK’s most populated cities using the incredible range of the new PEUGEOT E-2008.

PEUGEOT’s research also considered the number of accommodation options within five miles of the city centre which allow for charging for electric vehicle drivers, such as hotels and B&Bs, with York and Birmingham topping the charts for such options, both offering 15 different accommodation options with EV chargers.
