Bursting with refinement and technology, the design of DS N°8 is a projection into the future and manifesto for the French Art of Travel. Its shape is an invitation to cover long distances through its record-setting aerodynamics. Its CD of only 0.24 and its CdA of 0.64, are among the best in its class. DS N°8 shows these aerodynamic characteristics perfectly through the smoothness of its lines which make the flow of air around the car’s body obvious. Each body part has been tested in the wind tunnel. All the work on aerodynamics represents a 15dm² saving in SCx, ie. a range increase of 37 miles WLTP and 46 miles on the motorway. This technical feat was achieved without any compromise to the exterior design.
DS N°8, the first DS vehicle to be offered with only a fully electric powertrain option. Embracing the Avant-Garde N° is the French way of writing 'Number' showing elegance. Due to the innovative design, DS N°8 a WLTP range of up to 466 miles meaning longer drives without having to worry about charging. There will be a choice of three electric drive trains offering up to 350hp reaching 62mph in 5.4 seconds. The car is limited to a top speed of 118mph. On a fast terminal, the vehicle can charge from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes, equating to 124 miles recovery in only 10 minutes.
DS N°8 has a cockpit that embodies French comfort, serenity and luxury. The wide dashboard envelops the occupants and exemplifies the seamless spirit (Seamless Design). It is both decorative, like a piece of craftsmanship, and technical through the integration of the sound system, air vents and light signatures. The purity of its design perfectly combines a high level of expertise (High Craft) and advanced technology (High-Tech), which bears witness to a perfect alchemy between the technical sophistication and skill of DS Automobiles in the application of material. The Clous de Paris embossed inserts on the steering wheel and air vents, as well as the pearl stitching on the dashboard and armrests, central to DS Automobiles, are still present. With the Nappa leather watchstrap upholstery, these essentials contribute to the Art of Travel.
Lighting is a major feature in the new generation of DS interiors. Designed to structure parts while making them appear to float, it conveys an atmosphere of purity and calm. The Inner LIGHTBLADE vertical light signatures that echo the exterior daytime running lights, bring the ends of the dashboard to life and mark the position of the door handles. These light up when the doors open to welcome occupants. The console's backlit graphics are inspired by a starlit sky. Inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept, the seats with their enveloping construction feature a slender shape with fully integrated head restraints. The use of high-density foams and the appearance of adjustable side bolsters on the backrests complete the comfortable seating. The front seats are massaging, cooled and heated. Comfort is enhanced by the DS NECK WARMER, that heat as close as to the body as possible to enhance energy consumption. Fitted into the backrests of the front seats, they are illuminated by a backlit DS logo with a crystal appearance.
In the rear, the occupants of the seats benefit from meticulously studied postural comfort, with ample knee room, 84cm of headroom and backrests inclined at 30 degrees, without compromise on their 40/20/40 modularity. Cooled and heated seat bases and backrests complete the comfort. DS N°8 also enjoys a reference soundproofing assisted by carefully fashioned aerodynamics, a complete acoustic treatment and laminated glass, which complete the promise of a first-class journey.
Because peace of mind also comes with safety, DS N°8 features a wide range of driver aids including active lane change and lane keep assist which builds upon current blind spot detection technology by using a radar with 75m range, speed limitation as well as adaptive cruise control knowing the radius of the next turn and adapting the car speed to safely navigate the corner. Driver attention alert uses an infrared camera that monitor eye movement so any signs of distraction or fatigue is alerted to the drive. There is 12 ultrasonic sensors which are supported by VISO PARK reversing camera complemented by VISION 360 allowing for full 360° camera coverage.
DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 is an innovative interface mimicking a smart phone, split into two sections; one for the driver and one for the passenger which is a vertical scroll which can be customised with the brand's colours. Connected services allow the driver to have a closer connection to the vehicle. CONNECT ONE PACK is included for 10 years which offers SOS & ASSISTANCE, all remote updates, remote maintenance offering a monthly report and a digital service record. CONNECT PLUS PACK is included for three years with DS cars which offers EV routing using the internal EV ROUTING journey planner which analyses current conditions and giving energy predictions whilst providing an optimal route. Battery pre-conditioning allows the car to prepare for charging whilst on the way to a station. Improved speech recognition and ChatGPT giving you acces to IRIS who acts as a personal assistance. The MYDS app is complemented by the CONNECT PLUS pack allowing you to remotely control charging, pre-condition the vehicle, lock/unlock the vehicle, turn on headlights and sound the horn.
To minimise stopping time, DS N°8 prepares the battery cells by conditioning them to be at a beneficial temperature for a high and regular charging curve. On a long journey, the on-board EV ROUTING automatically triggers battery preconditioning before arriving at a charging station. This ensures that the cells are in the best state for charging, regardless of the outside temperature.
The French manufacturer is taking another step forward with an improvement in speech recognition through spatialisation. When several people are inside, DS N°8 recognises the voice and position of the person speaking to it from the first row. If the front-seat passenger says “Ok Iris, I'm cold, turn up the temperature”, the system understands that you need to add a few degrees just on the passenger’s side of the cockpit.
